alright, I’m annoyed with the class that I’m taking. it’s about writing novels, and I thought it would have cool stuff about balancing your narrative and developing themes etc, but instead she spent the first class talking about how every book fits into the Hero’s Journey (the monomyth template). and I was somewhat of a contrarian, and said “can you give us examples of books that don’t fit into this template?” and she said “no. because all books fit.”
but I dunno man, I just finished reading this Korean book where the plot is just the character having a string of hookups and reflecting on them without changing in any way. I don’t know if it’s possible to contort that into the Hero’s Journey.

I feel like ppl focus on Bruce training the robins to kick ass from a young age when that’s definitely not all that was. He had to teach them field medicine and how to pick locks and sneak around silently and how to notice things, sure he taught them how to hit things with sticks of multiple sizes, but he also taught them how to grapple around and land from a fall.
They probably had intimidation lessons and interrogation lessons and sessions where they just meditated for hours straight. They’re taught how to calm down civilians and to train their voices to sound different in costume and so many things that would make them the most terrifying children to live with.
Bruce is actively training them to be good at bothering him because they like trying out their new espionage skills at Galas and trying to sneak around him while he’s asleep to prank him.
When we think of training to be Robin it’s easy to think of sparring and gymnastics equipment when it’s fun to remember the other parts of it. Some days Bruce would probably just give the kids a Hunt a Killer box and a time limit.

if the agrestes weren't rich i think that gabriel would be the normal one. like gabe's problem is that he stopped running into natural limits due to absurd wealth and his obsessive nature led him to develop some kind of god complex where he won't accept that anything is out of his control. I think that if gabe was broke again and just simply couldn't afford to go on an international goose chase for ancient magic artifacts of untold power, if he had to work a 9-5 to live and couldn't just disappear into his basement lair to commit domestic terrorism and say evil monologues to himself, then he would be way more normal. he'd just be some guy. he might even let himself have a mowhawk again. but I think that emilie would be way LESS normal if they weren't rich. like emilie needs so many people to be obsessed with her so much all the time in order for her to function. and gabe would still have his toxic codependent obsession with her, sure, but that wouldn't be nearly enough. emilie has to be at the center of the world's spotlight at all times because she doesn't know how to exist if she's not performing. anyway all this to say I am so certain that if the agrestes were not disgustingly wealthy, emilie agreste would one million percent be running a massive family vlogger youtube channel

#ask#non mdzs#My health journey has been: Hernia -> acid reflux -> Vocal pain due to aforementioned reflux -> chest infection.#I'm terrified to know what's about to hit me next. Please let it be something kind. PLEASE.#The consequence of living with linguists is that you'll wake up with a wacked up voice -#suddenly you're sitting you down in front of a program called something like Praat having your shimmer and jitter levels calibrated.#They gave me a GRBAS of 33012. I have a fun thing called a pitch break where a whole octave just does not exist.#My vocal pain was bad enough I ended up seeing a speech pathologist and that whole experience was super neat!#I learnt a lot about voice - to be honest I might make a little comic on it after some more research. Fascinating stuff.#For example; your mental perception of our voice modulates the muscles of the vocal folds and larynx.#meaning that when you do have changes (inflammation = more mass = lower frequency)#your brain automatically attempts to correct it to what it 'should sound like'. Leading to a lot more vocal strain and damage!#And it gets really interesting for trans voice care as well - because the mental perception of one's voice isn't based on an existing sampl#So a good chunk of trans voice training is also done with the idea of finding one's voice and retraining the brain to accept it. Neat!#Parkinsonial Voice also has this perception to musculature link! The perception is that they are talking at a loud/normal volume#but the actual voice is quite breathy and weak. So vocal training works on practicing putting more effort into the voice#and retraining the brain to accept the 'loud' voice as 'normal'.#Isn't the human body fascinating?#Anyhow; Now I have vocal exercises and strategies to reduce strain and promote healing.#Which is a lot better than my previous strategy of yelling AAAH in my car until my 'voice smoothed out'.#You can imagine the horror on the speech path's face. I am an informed creature now.#I'm my own little lab rat now. I love learning and researching. Welcome to my tag lab. We know Jesus had a penis (he's circumcised) and that 2. there's no way Jesus could have XY chromosomes since Mary is his only biological human parent. So Jesus is intersex according to this logic

hear me out: lighter with a reader who's sick, tired and dehydrated 24/7 with very deep eyebags. he's effortlessly doing pushups while you sit on him but you can jog for 5 secs without becoming a panting mess.
imagine him u up like a bunch of grapes and manhandling u
oh that is so me. he has shown in game that he would tease you a little for it (he laughed at our poor attempt of pull ups) but i don’t think he’d be mean about it. if you really wanted to, he’d help you get started so that it isn’t intimidating but he wouldn’t force you to do it. he would DEFINITELY try to help you live a healthier lifestyle in other ways like cuddles to sleep earlier, getting drinks together, etc.
i think something that’s fun to think about is actually helping lighter when he’s practicing/exercising. he feels a lot more motivated when you’re around but he doesn’t want you to just watch him. if it’s an actual fight, sure he doesn’t mind, but this is precious time that could be spent together.
so now he has you keeping his feet down while he does sit ups. it doesn’t ask much from you and he gets to see your face, unlike sitting on him when he does push ups. it’s like a reward in a sense, your voice counting each rep and your smile that just pushes him to do more every time. he doesn’t know if he’s feeling weak from the exercise or from your presence, as he’s beginning to slow down.
you observe that he’s getting tired, sweat running down his face. he doesn’t wear his shades when he’s practicing, they just get in the way sometimes, so you can see the focus in his eyes disappearing. “6, 7, 8,” you continue counting for him, keeping a mental note of how many reps he has done until now. just before he finishes, you decide to give a little boost of motivation to him. he gets ready to sit up, taking his time to ensure he does it safely. right as he sits up, you place a little kiss on his nose and he doesn’t register that for a moment. his body was ready to lie back down but then it stops half way and then it clicks in his head. a smirk on his face before lying back down, his heart rate increasing from both the exercise and you.
also i do think that he can easily manhandle you. his hands on your waist and you’re up in the air, placing you on the nearest surface. but if there’s anything that you’ve shown clear discomfort to, he would never do. i don’t think he’d slam you into a wall or anything like that, but instead would pin you to a wall slowly mhm
